NHRC takes action on delayed cardiac surgery at AIIMS
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of the news report regarding the delay in the cardiac surgery of a boy at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.
A 6-year-old boy from Bihar has been waiting for his cardiac surgery since 2019. His father has been struggling to afford the necessary medical expenses for the surgery. According to the media report, the AIIMS has only been offering dates for the surgery whenever the family visits. The commission has requested the AIIMS to prepare a detailed report in the matter within one week.
The report will include the present health status of the boy and the scheduled date of his cardiac surgery. It is to be noted that the AIIMS is one of the country’s most prestigious and well-funded public healthcare facilities. A large number of people visit the institute daily from across the country in order to seek treatment for their ailments by the country’s best doctors. The AIIMS has been requested to prepare a detailed report on the matter within one week.
