India provides immediate relief to Vanuatu after Earthquake killed 14
New Delhi: The Indian government announced Thursday immediate relief assistance of USD 500,000 to Vanuatu, following the catastrophic earthquake that struck the archipelago a fortnight ago. The earthquake, with a magnitude of 7.4, caused widespread destruction and loss of life.
In a statement released by PIB, the Indian government expressed its condolences to the government and people of Vanuatu and pledged its support in the aftermath of the disaster. The assistance is provided as a gesture of solidarity and friendship under the Forum for India-Pacific Islands Cooperation (FIPIC) and will support relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction efforts. This assistance underscores India’s commitment to disaster risk reduction and management, a key pillar of its Indo-Pacific Oceans’ Initiative (IPOI), announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the release noted.
