Shrill exchanges between Centre and Tamil Nadu government over NEP and delimitation are unwarranted. CM Stalin’s political grandstanding a year ahead of elections aside, his apprehensions and concerns are not unfounded. Bellicose responses by union ministers will be counter-productive. Centre must address them with sensitivity and a spirit of accommodation.

Political proximity and scant regulation leave their credibility in doubt.
